Training
Basics
No matter where each horse is in their
training, Julie has learned to start from the beginning with each
one. Some of those basics include making sure the horse understands:
to back softly
on request
to lead safely
and quietly
to yield to
its handler forward, backwards, sideways, up and down
to allow its
feet, head, ears and all other parts to be handled safely
to pay attention
to its handler rather than other horses or activities
to follow the
requests of its handler softly and consistently

Here
Julie is working with a student to teach her young horse to back softly
from her command
Training
Issues
Many horses that have been
ridden for years, often have issues that cause problems for their
riders. Others have never been "started" and just need to be introduced
to the world of human's riding them.
"Most issues
tend to come from a lack of understanding of what humans want. Once
a horse understands our requests, they are more than happy to comply."
-Julie
Julie has spent years learning
to read what each horse is afraid of and why. And, she simply works
with them to improve their understanding of our requests. When necessary,
she breaks down each request to "baby steps" that the horse can perform
successfully. Then she builds on that.
Julie's
Four Rules of Training |
 |
Julie works with all types of horses,
no matter where they are at in their training. She starts where
they are and builds their understanding from there. Her "Horsemanship
from the Heart" approach is extremely successful in helping horses
work through issues and become happier partners**.
** While
Julie's "Horsemanship from the Heart" approach produces great
results for both horse and rider, it is not always quick, and
it is never finished. Those owners who want a perfect push-button
horse in 30, 60 or 90 days, without learning anything themselves,
should not expect to be successful.

sent to her for a Spring tune-up. Well known bio-mechanics
expert, Dr. Deb Bennett, dropped in and snapped this photo
of him "100% on the bit," according to Dr. Deb.

Your
Role
Many horse owners have Julie work
with their horses to help them get to a certain point in their
training. But eventually owners need to understand and be able
to carry on the communication Julie teaches each horse. This is
why Julie highly encourages each owner to come and watch her work
with their horses.
Owners may sit in on and ask questions
during any training session with their horse. They also often
opt to have a private lesson with Julie or participate in a clinic
with their horse to make sure they understand and can perform
the skills needed to continue building a solid partnership with
their horse.
Owners who truly want what is best
for their horse, understand that they play the biggest role in
their horse-human partnership. They also realize that this partnership
is a never-ending progression. Both horse and human levels of
understanding are continually evolving. That's
part of the fun of horsemanship!
